We’re smack dab in the middle of the 15th annual Beaufort International Film Festival. It’s been a wonderful week so far, and we still have several days of film watching to look forward to. In honor of BIFF, and with the help of BIFF co-directors Ron and Rebecca Tucker, I created the BIFFwich.
Roll out the red carpet! The 15th annual Beaufort International Film Festival is almost here. Starting on Monday night, February 15th we’ll be viewing all of the nominated flicks leading up to the Awards Ceremony on Friday, February 19th. For many people, the experience of going to the movies includes popcorn and candy.
I was making a pot of our Mama’s spaghetti sauce this afternoon when I started thinking about my brother, Ray. As much as we loved Mama’s sauce recipe, we both adapted our respective versions to omit the heartburn evoking green peppers she always added to hers. I could almost see Ray rolling his eyes and fake belching. Remembering made me smile. It also made me sad. Ray died unexpectedly last Thursday, just a few days shy of his 53rd birthday.
2021 has finally arrived. Yay! We survived the wretchedness of 2020 and live to tell the tale. So, now what? I’m writing this column on New Year’s Day evening. When I hopped out of bed this morning, all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, I just knew that today would be the beginning of a new era. Everything would miraculously be back to normal. No Covid. No discord. No crazy politics. The phone would be ringing off the hook with clients wanting to schedule parties and events. Friends would be sending texts about upcoming get-togethers. ALL WOULD BE WELL!
If you've been a long time Celebrate Every Day reader, you know that local photographer, Susan DeLoach, and I have collaborated on lots of things. We've joined forces on Lowcountry Weekly columns, weddings, parties, digital magazines, OLLI classes, and in 2019 we published a cookbook, Celebrate Beaufort, together. We've been good friends for close to 15 years.
Christmas is coming. There's no stopping it. If you haven't put your Christmas tree up yet, here's an idea. Why not host a tree-trimming supper? What a great way to spend time with family and/or friends and get your holiday decorating done at the same time! My menu has a Mexican theme. Whip up a batch of margaritas and let the festivities begin. Happy Christmas partying!
